Ahead of his new single, ‘Turn Me Out‘, dropping next month, we asked London producer Russ Chimes to put together a playlist of the track’s that have offered him the pluck, inspiration and belief to rise to the top of the dance music game.

Here’s what the man himself had to say: “Here’s 10 dance tracks that inspired me in my younger years to make dance music or tracks that I’ve just always had love for. It’s pretty eclectic in terms of genre and underground status. There’s a couple of newer tracks in there too, but they all either hold memories for me, or get me excited today.”

1. Alex Gopher with Demon presents: Wuz – ‘Use me‬’

“Such a good groove and the vocals are just so bittersweet – that bassline! Everything I love about French house music is here.”

2. 29 Palms – ‘Touch the Sky’

“It’s borderline cheese-tastic, actually it’s probably way over the border; but those pad stabs, and that chord progression just bring so many memories flooding back. It still gives me chills!”

3. George Morel – ‘Let’s Groove‬’

“This used to sound SO good iN my embarrassingly rude boy’d-up VW Golf with the sub in the back – still sounds as fat today.

4. Pseudo – ‘Heartbeat’

“As far as early late 90s UK Garage went, this has to be one of my faves!”

5. Marcus Intalex & High Contrast – ’3AM’ (Full Version)‬

“One of my favourite D&B tracks. I was really into the whole liquid side of things 15 years ago and this track is still as exciting to me as it was then. The first four minutes are great, but for me it’s the chord samples and vocal that come in on the break at 4:00… Pure euphoria excitement and energy in that build!”

6. Scott Grooves – ‘Mothership Reconnection’ (Daft Punk Mix)‬

“What is there to say about this? When the bassline comes in I’m about as excited as I can be.”

7. Purzique – ‘Don’t Go’

“Probably my favourite thing that Alex Ridha has ever done: instant classic.”

8. Pedestrian – ‘Hoyle Road‬’

“Probably my standout track from this year so far, it has everything; the vocals, and the break to that marimba riff.. wow.”

9. Simian Mobile Disco & Bicep – ‘Sacrifice’

“Heard this watching a Simian Mobile Disco Mixmag DJ lab thing a few months ago, and yearned to hear it again… Gonna be hammering this over summer

10. Groove Armada – ‘Easy’

“I know it’s on the commercial side of things, but that piano break is one of the best things I’ve ever experienced in a packed tent of 10,000 people.”

Russ Chimes’ new single ‘Turn Me Out’ is released June 30 via Deconstruction/Columbia.
